2011 Istanbul Workshop
GreenEngines 2011 workshop in Istanbul, reconsiders those spaces that once were industrial, inserted in the shores of Golden Horn. Once they were dismantled, these empty spaces became green areas and urban parks that do not take into consideration the architectural heritage, transportation networks, connectivity with the city fabric, new uses of the green, cultural identity and economic and socio-cultural bottom-up synergies. In order to think a strategy for urban regeneration of Golden Horn, it is also necessary to reinvent a new productive landscape and to integrate in harmony heritage and culture, energy and food production, industry, tourism, education, leisure, nature and open spaces, housing, commerce and new means of transportation. Through a pedagogic tool we will research a new sustainable planning alternative for urban rehabilitation. The methodology of work takes into consideration a landscape urbanism and environmental planning approach. It integrates urban processes over time, anticipates strategic scenarios, actors and operational logics through three different scales, reconsiders representational techniques, and takes into account the phenomenal richness of physical life.
